The Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority (OMPA) officially began supplying wholesale electricity to the City of Lindsay on June 1, 2025, following the city’s recent decision to join the growing list of municipally owned utilities served by OMPA.

With this addition, Lindsay becomes the 43rd Oklahoma city or town being served by OMPA since the organization’s founding. The Authority, which began operations in 1985 with 26 original members, is a municipal joint-action agency governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors which are representatives from its member cities. Each member community selects one elector to vote on key governance decisions. “We are excited to have Lindsay join the OMPA family and look forward to providing them exceptional service for years to come,” said David Osburn, General Manager of OMPA.

Located in northwestern Garvin County, Lindsay is approximately 50 miles south of Oklahoma City. The city is situated along Oklahoma State Highway 19 and is in close proximity to other OMPA member communities, including Purcell, Lexington, and Marlow. This strategic location enhances regional collaboration and strengthens the municipal power network in Central Oklahoma.

Lindsay is home to approximately 2,864 residents and boasts a rich history dating back to its founding in 1902. The city once promoted itself as “The Broomcorn Capital of the World” and is known for its strong community values, historic downtown, and annual events. Its economy is rooted in agriculture, oil and gas, and local enterprise. Lindsay’s current City Manager, Sally Jantz, also previously worked for OMPA member Fairview.

OMPA was established in 1981 by Oklahoma’s municipally owned electric systems to create greater control over power supply and pricing. In the decades since, it has grown steadily and continues to support the success and independence of community-owned electric utilities.
